Warmth through Texture:
Texture brings a design to life and creates great interest to the eye. Choose items that bring nostalgia or comfort when you see/touch them. Your 5 senses play an important role in making your design complete!
Chunky knit throw blankets (sight/touch)
Textured Pillows (sight/touch)
Cozy Area Rugs-Now I'm not telling you to bring back shag rugs butttt, I am saying think of the pattern, and pile of the area rug and color. Maybe layer area rugs (see blog post about area rugs) with a faux fur rug to add some warmth (sight/touch)
Faux Fur throw that can be draped over a couch or accent chair (sight/touch)
Blanket Woven Basket- throw all of your favorite blankets in a great textured basket to allow guests to cozy on up (sight/touch)
Christmas tree/Garland/Wreathe- Bonus points if you get any of these fresh!! But bringing the outside in gives you a sense of oneness and comfort with nature & has an amazing smell (Sight/touch/smell)
Choose shelf decoration that has texture, glitter, rippled glass, feathers, beading-etc. to make your design come to life and with the colors stated above (sight/touch)
Mirrors- Choose a frame that has lots of texture while allowing the mirror itself reflect all the lighting in the room to give an extra cozy feel (sight)
Incorporated wood- Dark or light will do but bringing in that wood texture and warmth can give a new aspect to your design, again bringing the outdoors in. For example in decor, a coffee/side table or Lamps (sight/touch)
Lighting:
Here's an easy way to bring in the warmth-
Candles- tapered, tea lights or hurricane candles give a great ambient light to any space and can add great smells as well (sight/smell)
String lights- I'm not hating on the colorful Christmas lights but warm white string lights give just enough glow to add that sense of warmth/cozy. But it's important to make sure you're buying warm white not bright white, it'll make a huge difference (sight)
Lamps- Same as the string lights, lamps with a warm white bulb can have the same effect
Other:
MUSIC!! What a wonderful way to top off the feeling of comfort and home. Break out the record player, speaker, or stereo and put on tunes that bring all the cozy!
Coffee table books- not only does this help with decorating but very functional. Who doesn't want to cuddle up and read/look through a book?
Fireplace-Do I need to explain further?
FRIENDS/FAMILY!! Host the most cozy Holiday party where no one wants to leave because they feel so at home.
