Last blog I gave you 5 things I WOULD include in my New Home Build if I were to build today. Now, it's time for 5 things I would not include or avoid in a New Home Build

1.) Tiled Shower Floors

I get it, they're gorgeous but over here we are being practical while keeping the design aesthetically pleasing. The grout is a pain to keep clean and keep up on maintence wise and in my opinion is not worth the headache. Instead opt for a solid surface shower or use a shower pan that is one piece, still has a textured floor to prevent slippage but it a lotttt easier to clean!

2.) Cabinets in the Kitchen with too many groves and details

I'm a sucker for saving photos with cabinets that have fluted details especially since they are trending. But, long term I see this trend becoming outdated. If you ever wanted to paint these cabinets it would be a hassle as well as keeping them clean.

3.) Farmhouse Sinks

I know, they're so pretty and spacious but coming from a technical viewpoint these sinks need a specific cabinet to sit into and if you ever wanted to change it out to a different styled sink you would need a different cabinet and counter. The counter also is cut differently for these specific sinks. If you are to install one I would suggest Blanco and NOT stainless steel since belt buckles or pant buttons could scratch the front of the stainless sink.

4.) Glued on Mirrors

If anything I would opt for mirrors held up by clips. I would pick out my own stylish mirrors to be hung. If you ever wanted to switch out your builder grade mirror in the future you don't want the mess of ripping it off your wall, drywall repairs and repainting the area to hang a new mirror.

5.) White Painted Kitchen Island

It's true, white is timeless but at an island with seating where people will be scuffing up the back of the island, I'd opt for a wood stain or colored painted island. White shows everything and can be tougher to clean.
