As we enter a new year there are new trends that are emerging as well as some trends that are hanging in there for another round. The theme of this year seems to tie in nature within the home and supporting local artisans (Which I am all for and thrilled about!)

Sooo.. with that said we'll start with a trend that many will appreciate:

Sustainability/Biophilia

As we move into a year of becoming more eco friendly, this will reflect in the design world as well. As more research is done, the use of more sustainable fabrics will be used such as; linen, cotton, silk, wool and many others. 2019's big trend is to make us feel at one with nature by incorporating more sustainable and natural products in our homes.

Hand Made Pieces

In 2019 you can see more people shopping locally and purchasing hand made pieces such as light fixtures and furniture for their home. The home is going to be centered around one's personality and less about having the latest styles. The home is going to be personal and hand made pieces can do just that. Instead of having something that is mass produced that anyone could have in their home this will be a one of a kind.

Warm colors

Cool Grays will be used less but warmer neutrals will replace it. Warm colors or stark white will be this years color palette for the home. This will bring in those natural earthy tones from nature into the home making it cozy but still allowing each space to feel airy.

Floral Fabrics/ Wallpaper

Floral fabrics and wallpaper might give people an image of their grandmothers old couch but there are so many options that are all different styles, bold and simple that can fit into any home when done right. This is another aspect of bringing the outdoors in and filling your home with a sense of tranquility.

Scandinavian & Boho Style

Scandinavian style started to largely appear in 2018 and is continuing into this year. The boho style is making a come back in 2019 but in a modern flair. Minimalist art and decor will be replaced with bolder colors and more organic shapes giving off a comfortable and personal feel. People will be looking for pieces to hang that are personal and unique rather than trying to match art to their furniture.

Mixed Metals

Mixed metals, a trend that I loved in 2018 & still love. This one is hard for a lot of people, especially if you grew up in a home where everything from the light fixtures, kitchen cabinet hardware and the sink faucet all matched. It is hard to imagine different metals in the same space matching but I promise you, IT CAN BE DONE. Designing Pinnacle Home's model many were skeptics of the use of 2-3 different metals in the same space but the key is using different metals on different plains. What do I mean by this? Well, in an open floor plan the ceiling fan in the living room is on a different plain than the sink faucet or cabinet hardware. This is a trend that can give good contrast and interest to your home.

Boldly Patterned Backsplashes

Although subway tile is timeless, we are seeing bold backsplashes making a big entrance in 2019. This can give your kitchen great character and detail to tie together the space. Bold backsplashes don't need to be too busy or overwhelming but can add interest and color to the heart of the home.

Light Wood Floors

Light wood floors make any room feel light and airy. By incorporating light wood floors into a design there is an aspect of nature. With the pairing of warm neutral wall colors this gives a room great contrast and an all natural feel.

Comfort

People are more focused on how they feel in their home as well as how it looks but comfort is becoming a main goal in many homes. People are looking to personalize their home to their lifestyle and many people are working from home or are looking to come home to a house that will allow them to enjoy and rest instead of having a house solely for looks.

90% White, 10% Color

There has been a shift from bright bold colorful rooms with accent walls to 90% of a space being white and only 10% of color. The color can be incorporated in decorations or subtle patterns in furniture or curtains. Again, going back to the natural feel of bringing nature inside the use of white with little color gives a space a clean, fresh feel.

Copper Accents

Sadly, Rose Gold will be left in 2018 and replaced with copper accents. Copper offers rich earthly tones of reds and orange that can liven a space and give it texture and interest. Copper is a natural material and can come in many finishes giving one a variety of color and sheen to pick from. It can come in a shiny/polished, brushed, matte or oil rubbed finish.

Concrete Accents

I Personally am very excited about this one! Concrete accents such as countertops and planting pots/decor. This can tie in with using local artisans to create something for your home that will give it that natural but personalized feel. Concrete counters can be customized to any size, they are also resistant to scratching and are impervious to heat. A great way to add even more interest is to have natural materials such as glass fragments, stones and shells embedded within the concrete. Using concrete as a countertop might make you think industrial but when paired with other natural materials such as woods and warm colors concrete will allow a space to have a lot of character with out feeling too industrial.

Curved Rounded Furniture

Curved and organic shaped furniture will be popular this year instead of sharp edged pieces. This is because the organic flow of curves replicate the organic shapes found in the outdoors. Curves found in furniture can also help a room flow very well allowing the eye to move around the room noticing every detail.

White or Warm painted Cabinetry

Cherry cabinets will be seen less in 2019 because of the new modern style of white or colored cabinets. Cherry cabinetry was widely used to make a kitchen feel warm but warmth is being created by the use of painted cabinets of blues, grays, and blacks. Painted cabinetry is giving the kitchen a modern fresh feel and can incorporate a 2 tone kitchen by using 2 different colors that are cohesive to accomplish that natural look.
